FAQ
What is this event, exactly?
2023 is the inaugural year for the Kacchako Advent. Adapted from the D/HR Advent in the Harry Potter fandom with the helpful advice of their mod team, this event is inspired by seasonal Advent calendars. One small gift in the form of a fanwork is available every day from December 1 through December 24.Members of the Kacchako community submit nominations for authors and artists to include. Authors and artists are each given an individual prompt and they create a single piece to be posted, one person for each day of the fest, for 24 themed gifts to the fandom.
Is this a zine?
This is not a zine! There will be no physical or digital compilation of works to be distributed. There will be no automatically included guest creators. There will be no physical merch. All works will be posted to an AO3 collection and freely available.
How do you decide who is invited?
Participants are invited based on the number of nominations made by Kacchako fans. After the nomination period is over, all names are placed in a spreadsheet and sorted by frequency. The invitation process is purely by the numbers.
Who automatically gets in?
No one. Absolutely no one automatically gets in. All participants must be nominated to create a fanwork, and that includes authors, artists, and mods.
How will pinch hitters work?
Pinch hitters will come from the nomination list and be contacted as needed after the first 24 admitted contributors. These invitations will be sent in order of nomination spot (i.e. the first 24 nominations accept, but contributor #12 has to drop—nomination #25 will be contacted for a pinch hitter spot).To be considerate of our creators' time as the holiday season draws near, the drop deadline is October 20th.
Who can I nominate?
Any author or artist in the Kacchako fandom! If a nominee has enough votes to be invited, they will receive an invitation. Period. Brand-new, long-term, writer, artist, posts in a dozen places, only posts on one site—it doesn’t matter. Invitations are 100% based on the number of nominations, and no personal considerations apply.
